Elvis Presley has Scottish ancestry, according to Scottish author, Allan Morrison, who has traced the King's roots to the hamlet of Lonmay in Aberdeenshire. Mr Morrison said that he found parish records of an Andrew Presley,
who married Elspeth Leg in Lonmay in 1713, and that the first Presley in America was their son, Andrew Presley, who arrived in North Carolina in 1745. This Presley with wanderlust had a son, also called Andrew, who fought for George Washington against the British in the Wars of Independence, and a grandson who fought for, and deserted, the Confederate Army in the Civil War.
Another colorful character in the Elvis family tree was Rosella Presley, an avid churchgoer who had 9 children out of wedlock. One of her grandsons was Elvis's father Vernon Elvis Presley, who married Gladys Love Smith. Rock'n'roll star Elvis was born to the couple on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi.
It is important to note that these Scottish roots appear to directly conflict with previous research by Henry Z. "Hank" Jones, a highly respected Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists. His research into the Presley family traced the Elvis line back to Valentine Preslar, born in Germany circa 1669. He and his wife, Anna Christina Framse were Palatine immigrants to New York in 1709. One of their five children was Andreas Preslar, who was born in Germany in 1701 and died in Anson County, North Carolina in 1759.
