Legacy Family Tree - Free Version?
Monday April 5, 2004
I received an email from a reader this weekend who wanted to let me know that Legacy Family Tree was "no longer offering the free download to their program." Of course I had to go check this out for myself - here's what I found out...
The most recent version of Legacy Family Tree is the 5.0 Deluxe Edition released in November, 2003. The new version contains dozens of significant new features and enhancements. In addition, a new free standard edition - Legacy Family Tree 5.0 Standard - was released at the same time, and it is indeed still available! I think the confusion might arise when people click on the "click here for more information" link under Standard Edition on the Legacy home page as this takes you to a page outlining the features of both the free and Deluxe versions and only provides links for purchasing the Deluxe version.
If you want to try out the FREE download version of Legacy Family Tree, just visit their site and click "Download." You'll be required to enter your email address and other identifying information, but you won't have to pay a cent.

My wife has 57 years of genealogical research revorded in the “ROOTS 3″ program.
It appears that she needs to up grade her work. Which Legacy program will accept the ROOTS 3 data in a simple transfer? Any help or sugestions would be appreciated.
She is considering Legacy because other genealogical friends in the neighborhood have that program and could offer assistance if needed.
