1881 British Census Records Go Online

Saturday December 4, 2004
Digitized images of the 1881 and 1891 census for England and Wales are now available online as as part of the UK National Archives' plan to publish all censuses dating from 1841 to 1891.

A co-branded service of MyFamily.com and The National Archives, the census indexes can be searched for free, while digital copies of the census pages are available on a pay-per-view basis. Over the next two years all historic censuses from 1841 to 1891 will be made available online in the same way providing a wealth of information about everyone living in the country, including their ages, occupations and places of birth.

Hello:

I have tried your website and cannot seem to find a name I’m searching although the name does appear on the 1881 Census on the FHC (Mormon) site. All roads on this site seem to lead to Ancestry as well and Ancestry costs money so I do not understand what is “free” on this site.
