Celebrate Black History Month

Monday January 31, 2005
Known as the "Father of Black History," Carter G. Woodson established Negro History Week in 1926, the celebration of achievements of African-Americans, now know as Black History Month. Woodson chose the second week of February for Negro History Week because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly influenced the black American population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.
