Love Letters

Monday February 14, 2005
Larry Untiet of Spencer, Iowa, discovered a love story hidden inside the walls of his home. A bundle of almost 60 love letters from 1921, exchanged between Halbert Jenkins of Chicago and Florence Kirkpatrick of Spencer. Wanting to know whether the young couple ended up together, Larry consulted a genealogist friend to help him search.

Yes, there is a happily-ever-after ending. The couple did marry in November of that year, according to KCAU-TV in Sioux City, and had a son and daughter. While they have since passed away, their son, Paul, was ecstatic to learn about the love letters he never knew existed.

It's interesting the history that a home can share.
