Family Tree Maker 2006

Saturday August 6, 2005
A new version of the popular Family Tree Maker software has been released, and it appears to address at least some of the inconsistencies and missing features of the previous version. I'll be posting a review as soon as I put the program through its paces, but according to Genealogy.com new features in FTM 2006 include:
  • Better source management including a source usage report which lists all sources associated with a single fact or person, the ability to copy and paste a single citation to multiple facts, an the ability to identify and replace duplicate master sources.

  • Automatic online backup of your family files offers up to 3MB of password-protected storage space for storing backups of your family tree file. Note: This feature is only free for the first three months.

  • An improved Edit Individual box simplifies the process of entering basic information about a person from the Pedigree view. It also makes it easier for you to see related sources for that person. And now you can enter four times as many notes in the Notes field - up to 1MB of text.

  • Family Tree Maker 2006 is bundled with Charting CompanionTM for Family Tree MakerŪ to view, customize, print and publish generations of your family tree in a wide variety of chart formats.

  • Improved searching and merging features make it easier to merge Ancestry.com records and images with any individual in your records and edit citation information before merging. All records stored in Family Tree MakerŪ 2006 can now be linked directly to the related source records on Ancestry.com. Note: A useful feature only if you also pay for a subscription to Ancestry.com.

Family Tree Maker 2006 is selling for $29.95. A special upgrade price of $19.95 is available for users of FTM 2005 only.

(1) Judy Nelson says:

I have Family Tree Maker 2008 installed on my computer and have been using that software for at least ten years.

I recently was given a copy of Family Tree Maker 2006 Standard. It has six months of free Ancestry.Com included.

Are these two softwares compatable?
