Hunt for Birth Father led to Flight 93

Monday September 11, 2006
21-year-old Mariah Mills knew from a young age that she was adopted. She loved her adoptive parents as much as a daughter could, but was also always curious about the identity of her birth parents. Minnesota state law allows adopted individuals age 19 and older to request a copy of their birth certificate with the names of their birth parents, so on the day she turned 19, Mariah requested her birth certificate from the Minnesota Department of Health. When it came, Mariah Mills learned more than she bargained for - her biological father, Tom Burnett, was one of the leaders of the group that fought back on Flight 93 before it crashed on September 11, 2001.
