Korean War Project May Close

Friday October 27, 2006
The Korean War Project has been online since 1995, a labor of love operated by brothers Hal and Ted Barker. The comprehensive site offers a forum for communication among veterans and others interested in the Korean War, along with possibly the most complete KIA/MIA/POW database. Yet, an announcement that went up on the site October 25 says that the nonprofit site is closing due to lack of financial support. This comes just a few weeks after word that Kyle Kopitke is under investigation by the Nebraska Attorney General's Office for his mishandling of the National Korean War Museum project. Sad news for our country's brave Korean War Veterans who fought in a war that very few cared about.

Hearing that the KWP was closing was/is such a great loss. This has been an exceptional web page. I have met daughters of men that my father served with through this sight. It is a place where i have spent many a long night reading and enjoying and trying to learn more about my fathers service time. It would be a true miracle if their was an angel somewhere that could figure out a way to keep this sight open when Hal and Ted worked so hard to create such a wonderful sight.

My breaks for Hal & Ted, for all the hours and money thay have put forth into this effort. Although I have searched the site countless times but never found anyone who knew my Dad, I never gave up hope. I didn’t know of the severity of the situation. Hopefully there will be a rescurer out there somewhere.
