Ancestors on Board

Wednesday January 24, 2007
For those of you with an ancestor who once upon a time sailed off for a foreign land from a British port (England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales), check out AncestorsonBoard which officially launched today. The Web site, developed in association with the National Archive of England, Wales and the United Kingdom, provides searchable access to records of over 30 million passengers leaving British ports between 1890 and 1960. Presently the database only covers the years 1890-1899, but the rest are being added shortly. Searching is free, but you'll have to pay per view to view transcripts or images of the actual passenger lists. The actual indexes, transcriptions and indexes appear on FindmyPast.com, formerly 1837online.
