Australian WWI Records Online

As "a gift to the nation," the National Archives of Australia has put its World War I service records online. This includes more than 376,000 records - 12.3 million pages of material - digitally scanned from the original paper records in a project that cost $4.9 million. These records may include enlistment documents, certificates of medical examinations, injuries sustained during the war, correspondence from family members, and even disciplinary documents.

The records went live yesterday on the National Archives of Australia Web site and are free to view. The site has been a bit slow since these records were just released, so search at an off-peak time or plan to have lots of patience!
