New Zealand Puts the Dead Online
Monday September 3, 2007
Timaru District Council in New Zealand has uploaded over 35,000 photos taken in six Timaru district cemeteries to its Web site in an effort to help relatives find graves and pay their respects. The free, searchable cemeteries database includes the date of death, the date of interment (if known) and the age at death, as well as plot information (including the former address of the deceased individual) if available. Some headstones offer multiple photos, such as in the case of Meshullam Joseph Webb, to provide closeups of the inscription. Burials date from about 1860 to the present.
