The popular
Footnote history Web site is taking genealogy to the masses with its new
I Remember app at
Facebook. The free Facebook application enables Facebook users to view any existing Footnote Page or create a new page without leaving Facebook. These pages can be used to document the life events and memories of your ancestors, or anyone else that had a meaningful impact on your life - family, friends, classmates, teachers, mentors, etc. The pages make it easy to share stories, upload photos, post comments, and add facts about an individual. These facts will be used to automatically generate a timeline of the individual's life and a map detailing important places and events.
“A big challenge with gathering memories and stories together is getting everyone to contribute and share in one place,” explains Russell Wilding, CEO of Footnote.com. “Facebook helps eliminate that barrier by bringing millions of people together on a daily basis. The I Remember application simply leverages Facebook’s successful platform so friends and family can participate in remembering people that meant the most to them.”

I heard about this app for the first time earlier today. I think it sounds wonderful, and I’m going to give it a try the next time I have a few minutes to spend on Facebook. I’ve been using Footnote.com for a while, and it’s a wonderful database. It will be interesting to see how it integrates with Facebook and what kind of interest it generates from my friends and family members there.
Actually something worthwhile that makes me want to go back to Facebook again.
