101 Web Sites Where You Can Trace Your Family Tree for Free

The news that Ancestry.com Inc filed for an IPO means that genealogy has finally hit the big time. I'm personally a long time subscriber to Ancestry.com, and use it on almost a daily basis. I get great value from the site because I do a lot of client work and Ancestry.com offers more records for my money than any other genealogy Web site. But for the many users who only use the site to casually research their personal family history, the subscription fees can be quite high. Thank goodness free genealogy records are still alive and well and very widely available!

There are many records you just can't access online without joining one of the many subscription genealogy sites, or paying for searches or document images. But you also might be surprised just how much is available out there for free if you just know where (and how) to look. Try these 101 Free Genealogy Sites to get you started!

Free genealogy site suggestions are always welcome - I'd love to hear from you about your favorites!
