Following up on the ongoing success of the Online Certificate in Genealogical Research, Boston University Metropolitan College Center for Professional Education has added a new online course to the curriculum -- a four week course in Genealogical Essentials. The class is designed, according to the website, for "hobbyists and enthusiasts who are currently conducting genealogical research, but who seek more formal training, as well as serious students new to the field of genealogy." The goal is to lay the foundation for good genealogical research -- genealogical terms and concepts, good genealogical research practices and ethics, how to effectively locate genealogical records, the Genealogical Proof Standard, and search techniques for online research. I'm extremely honored to have my most recent book, The Everything Guide to Online Genealogy, 2nd edition, selected as a required text to accompany Val Greenwood's The Researchers's Guide to American Genealogy.
Both the online Genealogical Essentials course and the Online Certificate in Genealogical Research are open now for fall registration. Both courses are offered online, and the Certificate in Genealogical Research is also available as a classroom-based course on Saturdays in Boston. Tuition discounts are available to members of APG, NGS and NEHGS.
