Identity Theft Concerns Continue to Lead to Restricted Records Access

Birth and death records in Ohio are just one of many recent victims of mounting concerns over identity theft. State officials recently imposed changes restricting access to the important genealogical records and threw in hefty fee increases as well. In the coming weeks, the Ohio Department of Health will also decide whether to further restrict access by confiscating collections of vital statistics currently available in libraries, historical societies, genealogical societies, and even on the Internet.
