Family Claims Forgotten Ashes
Sunday August 29, 2004
A touching article in The Hawk Eye of Burlington, Iowa relates the story of James and Mary Denslow -- finally resting together for eternity after more than a century spent apart. It seems that Mary, who died on April 26, 1916, was cremated, and the ashes sent to her son. Somehow her remains ended up in the keeping of a bank, where they turned up in the basement in the 1980s. When a new building was built, the bank owners set off on the challenging search for a living relative.
