Epidemics & Your Family Tree

My daughter just finished reading Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson, a book based on an actual epidemic of yellow fever in Philadelphia that wiped out 5,000 -- or 10 percent of the city's population -- in three months. If you've ever wondered why a disproportionate number of ancestors died or disappeared during a certain period in history, then perhaps they were affected by one of these epidemics or historic disasters.
