Ancestry.com announced today that it has completed the task of digitizing and transcribing the complete U.S. Census, from 1790 to 1930 (the most recent census available to the public), making it the only searchable online repository that offers the complete set. The addition of the remaining U.S. Census records brings the total database to 5 billion, and the site's database to 600 terabytes of data.

The census records include 13 million original census images that have been scanned, transcribed and indexed from 15,000 rolls of microfilm. Copying and indexing these records took a team of experts and workers a combined 6.6 million hours of labor, according to Ancestry.com CEO Tim Sullivan.
