Remembering Our Veterans

Friday November 10, 2006
More than 1,000 per day. That's how fast World War II veterans are dying across the country according to the U.S. Veterans Administration. And for many, their stories and memories of their war experiences have died with them.

Three years ago I blogged about the Veteran's History Project, urging people to preserve the stories of our veterans for future generations. During those intervening years, most of the surviving veterans of World War I have sadly passed on (yes, those still living are all well over 100 years of age).

This Veteran's Day, honor the veterans in your family tree by collecting and preserving their oral histories. You can use the resources provided by projects such as the Veterans History Project, or you can record your own family history interview with this step-by-step guide.
