Event: Birth

Dates: From January 1908

Cost of copy: $12.00

Comments:  State law restricts access to family members for 125 years after the date of birth.  With your request, include as much as you can of the following information: the full name of the person listed on the certificate, date of birth, place of birth, full name of father, full maiden name of mother, your relationship to the person whose certificate you are requesting, your address and daytime phone number.


Event: Death

Dates: From January 1913

Cost of copy: $12.00

Comments:  State law restricts access for 25 years after the date of death to family members only.  With your request, include as much as you can of the following information: the full legal name of the deceased; the date of death; the county; sex; date of birth or age at death; race; name of spouse; name of parents; the reason why you are requesting the record; and your relationship to the person named on the death certificate. 


Event: Marriage

Dates: From August 1936

Cost of copy: $12.00

Comments: Marriage certificates are not confidential in Alabama and may be accessed by anyone. With your request, include the grooms full name, the full name (including maiden name) of the bride, the date of marriage, the county of marriage and your address and phone number.

* For marriages prior to 1936, contact the Probate office in county where license was issued.


Event: Divorce

Dates: From January 1950

Cost of copy: $12.00

Comments: Divorce records are not confidential in Alabama and may be accessed by anyone.  With your request, include the full name of husband, the full name (including maiden name) of the wife, the date of divorce, the county where the divorce was granted and your address and phone number.

* For divorces prior to 1950, contact the Clerk of Circuit Court in county where divorce was granted.
