that site for the Library of Virginia.
<Guest1826>
Where can i find records
pre 1783 for Joseph Ralston who took wife & kids to Fort Pitt for safety &
records on the military history there & 13th Augusta co va regiment?
<genealogyADM>
GailB - you can talk openly
now
<genealogyADM>
And please go ahead and ask
Cyndi the question you had earlier!
<cyndihow>
Guest1826 --
Library of Virginia
<cyndihow>
On that page is more
information about the land grants.
<GailB>
If you can't visit State
Archives, do they have researchers available for a fee?
<Guest1826>
I've been on the VA site,
found bounty cards, led to Richmond library on the bounty land warrents
card say see Robert Vance that card say Joseph a private died in the army,
but I think maybe he was captured & was alive & army thought him dead?
<cyndihow>
Your Joseph Ralston, Jr.
made his settlement in 1775
<rikkihost>
? about land records but
not in PA...when and if you have the time.
<JimBeidler>
GailB - Are you asking
about PA State Archives?
<Guest1826>
Which county in Pa to check
for pre 1783 records on Fort Pitt?
<genealogyADM>
Fort Pitt is in Allegheny
now, but that wasn't formed until 1788
<genealogyADM>
So probably check
Washington CO
<GailB>
Yes, PA.
<UnkHiram>
Ummmmm, I have question for
Ms Cindy, when she has a moment
<cyndihow>
1826 -- I would have to
spend a bit more time researching this.
<cyndihow>
There should be plenty
published about the Rev. War units serving from VA
<SharonHOST>
1826, Scroll up and read
Cyndi's message--you need to be looking in Ohio Co. also
<JimBeidler>
GailB - Yes, they will do
very limited searches of their records
<genealogyADM>
Guest1826 for even earlier
PA records - check Westmoreland County
<genealogyADM>
That was the parent county
for most of southwestern PA, including Washington County - the later
parent of Allegheny County
<GailB>
Thanks Jim.
<cyndihow>
Check the Library of
Virginia card catalog for the topic. Perhaps something you could obtain by
InterLibrary Loan on the history of the unit.
<genealogyADM>
The Western PA Genealogical
Society is a great source of information
<Guest1826>
I have joseph & wife Jane ?
2 sons Joseph & Samuel, each named sons Joseph & Samuel, John & Andrew,
(fun to sort) the 3rd &4th gen traveled to New Orleans & New York with
cargo loads of flour caught the fever & died.
<genealogyADM>
And you can also try
emailing Marilyn Holt at the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh
<genealogyADM>
She's wonderful about
helping researchers
<cyndihow>
1826 -- I want to do
nothing now but look into this for you, because it is an interesting
question. However, I should prob move on....
<Guest1826>
Have checked alot of those
records & not finding much help.
<cyndihow>
OK, Unk -- hit me (not
literally, please)
<sawgrass>
Goodnight everyone. This

<sawgrass>
I will, thanks.
<cyndihow>

isn't too long, I might be able to do it, although I'm backlogged right
now.
<genealogyADM>
{{{{April}}}}
<April>
Thanks
<cyndihow>
I now have more NASH
research to do because of my cousin, Chad. I don't want to disappoint him.
<genealogyADM>
Anyone have any more
questions for Cyndi?
<rikkihost>
Would there be someplace
*other* than the local courthouse that would hold information on land
buy/sell in the late 1800's to early 1900's? Franklin County NY's records
were all burned in a fire. everything...land, birth, death, everything :(
<cyndihow>
rikki -- NY land?
<rikkihost>
Cyndi...yes, sorry. I don't
have anything for PA
<JimBeidler>
GailB try
this URL
<April>
Rikki. is there a gen. soc.
in Franklin Co? They may have something
<Guest1802>
?
<cyndihow>
Have you checked newspaper
archives? Perhaps mention of land transactions in the newspapers.
<rikkihost>
April, yes there is and no
they don't. :(
<April>
bummer
<cyndihow>
Also, check the
publications from the local genealogical and historical societies.
<GailB>
Thanks again Jim.
<rikkihost>
Cyndi, never thought to
check newspaper...thanks. :)
<cyndihow>
rikki -- tax records also
burned?
<rikkihost>
Yep
<cyndihow>
wills?
<JimBeidler>
Go ahead Guest1802
<cyndihow>
probate?
<rikkihost>
yep...everything...it's as
if the town didn't exist.
<Guest504>
Hi Cyndi, this is Jennia
Hart from scrapbooking.com (remember me?) I just found I have a large
number of relatives in PA- unfortunately I had to go to dinner but I'll be
reading the transcripts.
<Glo>
I don't have a question,
just a THANK YOU to Cyndi for a great and informative evening. See You
Cyndi in April.
<cyndihow>
See you then Gloria!
<cyndihow>
Hi Jennia - hope that you
enjoy the transcripts and that they help you.
<cyndihow>
Go ahead 1802
<Guest504>
Do you know if PA will
release records less than 75 years old? I will need to get my Dad's birth
certificate (he is deceased) and my Grandmother's info- she is deceased.
<genealogyADM>
Rikki - FHL is showing that
they have Franklin County land deeds on microfilm to 1900 and indexes even
later than that
<cyndihow>
Guest504
<rikkihost>
FLL?
<cyndihow>
Pennsylvania Department of Health - Division of Vital Records
<maddad>
hello all
<SharonHOST>
HI maddad
<April>
Hi maddad
<rikkihost>
Hiya maddad
<PatTB>
hHi Cyndi: In the Public
Ledger Newspaper 10 August 1858 at the end of my ggrandparents marriage
notice of their wedding in Philadelphia is )Indiana papers please copy).
Any idea on where to look - Indiana Co., state of Indiana?
<cyndihow>
Death records are available
from 1906 to the present
<JimBeidler>
Guest504 - they will
release - there's a form to fill out - you need exact date of death or it
costs a bit more
<genealogyADM>
Guest504 - PA will release
to immediate family members
<cyndihow>
PatTB -- libraries should
have copies of old newspapers on microfilm
<genealogyADM>
children and grandchildren
included
<GailB>
Was there a legal age of
male of 21 yrs. for marriage in the early 1800's. Was female 18 yrs.?
<cyndihow>
Hold on --
<cyndihow>
Is the ""Public Ledger
Newspaper"" a Pennsylvania or Indiana newspaper?
<Guest504>
The only problem is that
right now I cannot PROVE I am a relative. My dad died before I was born. I
was legally adopted so there is no official record that these are my
father and grandmother. YET.....
<PatTB>
Public Ledger is Phila., PA
<cyndihow>
Gail -- no legal ages at
that time, that I know of. Perhaps for owning land, etc. Voting
<JimBeidler>
(A predecessor of the
Inquirer)
<GailB>
Thanks.
<cyndihow>
PatTB -- I'm confused by
your question.
<Guest504>
I haven't tangled with AZ
yet, but I am going to have to see if I can get a copy of the sealed birth
certificate or I may never be able to prove this except through Social
Security.
<cyndihow>
It sounds as if there was a
notation regarding Indiana at the end of the marriage notice.
<cyndihow>
Is that right?
<PatTB>
Yes, that is correct. I
don't know which Indiana. They must have had relatives there.
<cyndihow>
Yes, it sounds as if they
wanted their notice published in Indiana newspapers also. I'm not sure how
you would search without knowing *where* in Indiana
<cyndihow>
You might look
here for
Indiana newspapers
<PatTB>
Thank you. I sure will give
that a shot.
<cyndihow>
Also, the
Indiana Historical Society
<genealogyADM>
Guest504 - all you can do
is try I guess
<genealogyADM>
PA doesn't even have a 75
year rule, per se
<PatTB>
Got it. Thanks twice!
<Guest504>
ADM- that's GOOD news!!!
<G>
<genealogyADM>
You have to be a family
member - at least a distant one - to get a birth certificate
<cyndihow>
OK folks. I can smell
pizza.
<JimBeidler>
On behalf of the
Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, thanks so much for sharing your
expertise with us, Cyndi. It has been an honor to have you as our guest
tonight. Thanks, too, to you Kimberly for making this happen. I think a
lot of people have been helped.
<cyndihow>
That means the boys are
eating without me.
<genealogyADM>
no - not good
<genealogyADM>
They are strict for all
years, not just the last 75
<cyndihow>
Jim - thank you for having
me!
<Guest504>
Yes, thanks so much
Cyndi!!!!
<JimBeidler>
Thank you everyone for
logging on. Please look up GSP
on the Web and consider joining our organization. Good night!
<cyndihow>
Kimberly - thank you for
running a good show.
<genealogyADM>
Thanks so much Cyndi!
<genealogyADM>
Good to have you here again
<cyndihow>

their research!
