| RebeccaScrapbook | pretty much a heritage scrapbooking is simply putting the info that you all gather in your research in an acid-free archival environment with pictures and possibly appropriate decorations |
| RebeccaScrapbook | the first thing is to take these significant family pictures that you all may have and make sure that the way you are storing them does not contribute to their degradation. |

| Newbie | Yes. Had a baby last year and have lots of photos to book. Picked up a couple issues of "Creative Memories" magazine. In it they stress the importance of proper storage of new and old photos. I've got albums from the 70's that are ruined now because of the sticky backing in the album. |

| RebeccaScrapbook | Strap-hinge albums such as Westrim or Creative Memories albums.... |

| RebeccaScrapbook | these albums have the pages attached to the album by straps that go thru staples in the side of the album page.... |
| RebeccaScrapbook | you work on both sides of a page and then cover it with a page protector |
| RebeccaScrapbook | the second type is a post bound album.... |

| RebeccaScrapbook | right....that will be fine for protecting the pictures and documents if you want to scrapbook with them so that you can add the journaling and pertinent information onto the page with the pic then you need a scrapbook |

| RebeccaScrapbook | for about $4 you can buy an acid testing pen... |
| RebeccaScrapbook | just like the litmus paper you used in HighSchool chem class... |
| RebeccaScrapbook | it will change color on paper that has acid in it |
| rikki2 | Rebecca, what if you have scanned pictures off the computer....it would work with those kinds of pictures wouldn't it? As long as the pictures were not printed onto glossy paper? |
| RebeccaScrapbook | you can then spray the paper with Archival Mist to protect it and see with your pen that it worked |

| RebeccaScrapbook | so you want to make sure that the AM wont cause the pic to run |

| RebeccaScrapbook | so you shouldnt be putting enough on there to be a problem |

| LLL | Well I told ya'll I'm doing research on my birth family,and I had left inquiry on TXgenweb in county I was born in the genealogist that is volunteer emailed me and we may be long lost cousins, plus I'm finding some info out on gggrandparents. And tomorrow is a special day for me for I was adopted 35 yrs. ago and it is the 1st year my a. daddy won't send me a valentine, for i lost him last year I'm an emotional case right now, but happy! |
