The popular personal genealogy management software from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helps users to organize their family history records. It can produce records for personal family histories or charts and logs to help users in their search for missing ancestors. This latest version includes several key new features:

  • PAF 5.1 allows users to view screens and print reports in English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Swedish and German while entering data in most known languages (including Asiatic and Cyrillic characters). It even allows the users to enter information in any one of those languages while viewing the screens and reports in another.

  • PAF users can now download their genealogies to a Palm OS handheld computer. PAF for the Palm OS allows users to view, but not edit, their PAF data by families, pedigrees, decendancies or individuals. It allows you to take your PAF data with you for easy reference when doing family history research away from home - no more lugging heavy laptops or bulky binders full of reports!

  • PAF 5.1 is designed to work with the add-on Windows®-based utility program PAF Companion 5.0. Personal Ancestral File Companion is designed to print a variety of high-quality genealogy charts and reports including a family group record, pedigree chart, ancestor chart (plus a variation with siblings included), descendant chart, fan chart and register report (book format). It also titles multiple pages to form very large (wall) charts. It has a compare feature that finds individuals in the Pedigree Resource File Master Index who may match those in your Personal Ancestral file. (You must have a copy of the Pedigree Resource File Master Index for this feature.) It will allow you to run Personal Ancestral File without exiting Personal Ancestral File Companion. It can be used with both the MS-DOS 3.0 and Windows 4.0 and 5.0 versions of Personal Ancestral File. PAF Companion 5.0 is available for purchase on CD-ROM, or you can download a free evaluation version from the FamilySearch Web site.

PAF 5.

1 has greater system requirements than previous releases. Current PAF users not interested in running the Palm application or who do not have the need for non-English applications may want to continue using earlier versions. The new software program is available free of charge if downloaded via the Internet at www.familysearch.org or for $6 on CD ROM through the Church's distribution centers worldwide (1-800-537-5971, item 770034). PAF 5.0 does not provide genealogical data. The PAF Companion 5.0 is available for $13.50 (item 50128).

System Requirements:

  • Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000 version
  • IBM-compatible Pentium PC or iMac with a Windows emulator
  • 32 MB memory
  • 20-60 MB hard disk space
  • 256-color display adapter supporting 800 x 600 screen resolution
