Daughters of the American Revolution Definition:
The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in
1890 and was incorporated in 1896 by an act of Congress. It is a heritage
society with a membership of almost 800,000 people from around the world. Any
woman is eligible for membership who is no less than eighteen years of age and
can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving
American independence. The DAR is well known for its wonderful museum and its
research library in Washington D.C.
