Definition: Event-based genealogy software links individuals through common life events. Each screen in an event-based program is based on an individual. That individual is linked to others in his family, but the screen contains only information about that one person including sources, photos and notes. An advantage to this type of event-based genealogy software program is that most allow an unlimited number of events for each person. Everything we find about a single person can be kept on display at one time as a sort of timeline of the individual's life. The disadvantage to this type of program is that it is harder to work with for people used to thinking in lineages and doesn't make it easy to tell at a glance how people are related to one another.
