The State Vital Records Office maintains a statewide registry of all births, marriages, civil unions and deaths which have occurred in CT since July 1, 1897. For vital records prior to that date, you must contact the town clerk of the city or town where the vital event occurred.
Note: For genealogy purposes, it is generally quicker and more cost efficient to contact the town clerk of the city or town where the event occurred.
Dates: From July 1, 1897 (state), earlier records available from town clerk
Cost of copy: $15.00 from the State Vital Records Office; $5.00 from the town or city of birth
Comments: State law restricts access to birth records less than 100 years old to the registrant, family members (including children and grandparents), and members of authorized genealogical societies. Older birth records are open to anyone over 18 years of age.
