Check or money order should be made payable to Vital Statistics. Personal checks are accepted. Requests for certified copies of vital records may be submitted by mail, in person, or by fax machine or telephone using  a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover credit card. The credit card vendor charges an additional $8.00 service charge for credit card billing. Genealogy requests are NOT considered urgent and must be requested through regular mail. Submit any written requests along with a business, self-addressed, stamped envelope. Visit the Web site or call the above number (a recorded message with the option to speak with a Customer Service Representative) to verify current fees. Application forms are available on the Web site. Additional copies of same record ordered at same time are $5.00 each.

Event: Birth

Dates: From July 1, 1911

Cost of copy: $10.00 (includes a 5 year search)

Comments: Birth records are available beginning July 1, 1911 with a few delayed birth certificates dating back to the 1860's. (Filing of delayed birth certificates started in 1940.) Birth records in Kansas are not considered to be public and are released only to the person named on the record, the parents, immediate family members, a legal representative or anyone who can prove a direct interest (such as a named beneficiary). Please include with your request the name of the person on the certificate; the date of birth; the city and county of birth (if known); your relationship to the individual; the reason for your request and your name; address and daytime phone number; and a personal identification number, such as your driver's license or social security number. Be sure to indicate that you want a certified copy, as this is the only copy which includes the parental information.

* For records prior to 1911, write to County Clerk in county where event occurred. 


Event: Death

Dates: From July 1, 1911

Please include with your request the name of the person on the certificate; the date of death; the city and county of death (if known); your relationship to the individual; the reason for your request and your name; address and daytime phone number; and a personal identification number, such as your driver's license or social security number. 

* For records prior to 1911, write to County Clerk in county where event occurred. 


Event: Marriage

Dates: From May 1913

Cost of copy: $10.00

Comments: Marriage records in Kansas are not considered to be public and are released only to the people named on the record, the parents, immediate family members, a legal representative or anyone who can prove a direct interest (such as a named beneficiary). Please include with your request the full names of the bride (including maiden name) and groom; the date of marriage; the city and county of marriage (if known); your relationship to the individual; the reason for your request; your name, address and daytime phone number; and a personal identification number, such as your driver's license or social security number.

* For records prior to May 1913, contact the Clerk of the District Court in the county where the marriage occurred.


Event: Divorce

Dates: From July 1, 1951

Cost of copy: $10.00

Comments: Divorce records in Kansas are not considered to be public and are released only to the people named on the record, the parents, immediate family members, a legal representative or anyone who can prove a direct interest (such as a named beneficiary). Please include with your request the full names of the bride (including maiden name) and groom; the date of divorce; the city and county of divorce (if known); your relationship to the individual; the reason for your request; your name, address and daytime phone number; and a personal identification number, such as your driver's license or social security number.

* For records prior to July 1951, contact the Clerk of the District Court in the county where the divorce occurred.
