Comments: Birth Records in Mississippi are not considered public access documents. Certified copies of such records in the custody of the State Department of Health may be obtained only by persons having a direct and tangible interest in such records, i.e. the subject named on the record, an immediate family member, or a legal representative. Be sure to indicate on your request your relationship to the individual and the reason for your request and enclose a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope with your request. Additional copies of same record ordered at same time are $3.00 each.

Comments: Marriage records have been kept by state and county officials since January 1, 1926. From July 1, 1938, to December 31, 1941, records were kept only by the circuit court clerk in the county in which the marriage license was issued. Statistical records only from January 1926 to July 1, 1938, and since January 1942.
