Event: Birth

Dates: From May 1848

Cost of copy: $4.00 (from state office); $10.00 (N.J. State Archives)

Comments: The State Vital Records Office has had records since June 1878. Additional copies of same record ordered at same time are $2.00 each. If the exact date is unknown, the fee is an additional $1.00 per year searched. Include as much as you know of the following with your request: name of child, place of birth, date of birth, name of hospital, father's name, mother's maiden name, your relationship to the individual and the reason for your request.

Births from May 1848 - May 1878 are available through the New Jersey State Archives. The fee is $10.00 for one record searched in up to five years plus $10.00 for each additional five years; the Archives will search for up to 3 records per request.

*If you know the place of birth, you can also contact the Registrar for that municipality to inquire about birth records.


Event: Death

Comments: The Clerk of the Superior Court maintains records for the years 1900-1989. The fee is for a certified Blue Seal copy. Make check or money order payable to:
