"While I have managed to get most of my
photos
into archival storage boxes, I still have piles
of photos waiting to be scanned, more waiting to
be put into albums, still more waiting to be
organized, and even more sitting in folders all
over my computer with no semblance of
organization."

If you're like me and weighed
down under the burden of trying to catalogue and organize your digital photos,
then there is help on the way. Today, Adobe announces a new generation of
Windows-based photo software, specifically intended to help the average digital
camera owner organize, find, fix, share, and preserve the lifetime of photos
accumulating on their computers. No more stacks of photos molding away in
shoeboxes, or albums full of pictures with no names and dates. Adobe Photoshop
Album, due to be released in February 2003, makes it easy to scan, save, and
truly organize your photo collection.
Highlights of Adobe Photoshop
Album
- Get photos with a single click
Easily grab photos from a digital camera, CD, or scanner with just one click.
- Easily organize photos with customized keyword tags
Create customized keyword tags that represent
families, surnames, places, or events, and drag them onto your photos so you
can find pictures by subject later. This is a great system for
genealogists because you can organize one photo under multiple surnames or
families without making copies.
- Find photos fast - by date or subject
Quickly locate any photo by the date it was taken using the sliding timeline
which displays photos taken over a period of time,
or the onscreen calendar view which shows the
exact day and month when each moment was captured. The
customized keyword tags also allow for easily bring up pictures from multiple
folders with one just one search.
- Safeguard your memories
Protect your photos from computer crashes by easily
burning your collection on CD or DVDno other CD burning software necessary.
- Create cards, calendars, slide shows, albums,
and books
An easy-to-follow wizard helps users create cards, calendars, albums,
Web photo pages, and even 3D Web galleries with just a few clicks of the mouse.
Put your own pictures and words into cards, calendars, and books for relatives
and special friends.
- Fix photo flaws with just one click
Photoshop Album provides one-click editing tools to fix common
problems, such as red-eye, color, contrast and brightness. For more advanced
editing, Photoshop Album provides single-click integration to Adobe Photoshop
Elements 2.0 and other graphic-editing programs.
I own a number of excellent digital editing and
photo software programs, but so far I've never really been impressed with
their ability to organize photos. While I've only played with the beta of
Adobe Photoshop Album so far, I have to admit that this program may finally be
the one that I've been looking for!
Adobe Photoshop Album for Windows is expected begin shipping in the United
States in February 2003 at an estimated street price of $49.99. International
editions are expected to ship in the second quarter of 2003.
Adobe has not indicated any plans for a Macintosh version. Further information
