TRY VARIATIONS ON FAMILY NAMES
Have you found several interesting names in your family history, but none are just right? Consider possible variations of these names for your child. Your great grandmother Amelia could lead to naming your child Mia. Great-aunt Virginia could be honored if you chose the name Jenny... You can also choose parts of two or more names to create a new baby name. Grandpa Edward and Grandma Winnie would be pleased to know you named your son, Edwin, after them!  You can even scramble the letters in a word to create a unique name (Shane and Nicole can be mixed up and re-combined as Shenika). Or use the letters from several family names to create your own name - one letter can come from Grandpa's name, another letter from your sister's name, etc.

Baby Name Inventor
Search for words containing certain characters, beginning with a certain letter, etc. If you get really stuck, let the Wizard invent a name for you!

DON'T LET GENDER DIFFERENCES STOP YOU
Another good way to keep names in the family and still give your child a name that is all their own, is to choose a variation of a family name from the opposite gender.  Aunt Michelle would be honored to know that you chose the name Michael for your little boy. Great Grandpa Kyle can be reincarnated as a female version - Kylie.

Behind the Name
Check "related names" to find similar names among both genders.

ANY FAMOUS PEOPLE IN YOUR FAMILY TREE?
While we aren't all related to royalty, many of us can find some very interesting ancestors in our family tree. Perhaps you had an ancestor who sailed to America on the Mayflower? Or one who wrote a book, competed in the Olympics, pioneered a new medical technique, played on a major sports team, or any number of other interesting, noteworthy things. When your child is old enough to understand, he will love to hear the story about the person he is named after over and over again. It is a great way to help a child feel connected to their past.

Famous Ancestors
Fun and fascinating family trees including royalty, nobility, presidents, famous historical figures, famous women, Greek and Roman gods and a variety of fictional characters from books and television.

DON'T LIMIT YOURSELF TO NAMES ONLY

You don't need to limit yourself to actual names in your family tree. Consider the historical meaning of a name that springs from a language used by your ancestors. Or a name which reflects your ethnicity or religion. These can provide a different way to affirm your baby's heritage.

Eponym
Name links from regions and countries around the world.
