I'm new to genealogy. Where do I start?
The best way to start is to write down everything you know.  Then start interviewing family members - they are your best source of information.  Once you have this information gathered together in one place, the computer can become a very useful tool..  Try Genealogy 101 for a plethora of detailed help and advice.

Can you help me find information on a specific ancestor?
I'm sorry, but I cannot personally help with individual research situations. However, you will find helpful tips, possible leads, and more information among the thousands of sites I've listed in the various categories of my Genealogy Resource Library and from my archive of Genealogy Articles.

How can I find my former classmate, 2nd cousin, etc?
Start with the Finding People link in my Net Links library.  It will point you to a variety of resources which can aid you in finding living people.

Do you accept site submissions?
Do you have a personal Web site devoted to a single surname? Or do you maintain a personal Web site which contains an HTML linked database containing over 500 surnames? If so, then please submit your site here for listing on my surname pages! All Web sites will be personally reviewed by me and you will be notified if I select yours for a listing on my site.

You can suggest a non-surname related genealogy site by emailing me genealogy.guide@about.com.  I can't guarantee to list any particular site, but I personally visit each and every submission.  I always welcome the opportunity to introduce others to wonderful new genealogy sites!

I am having trouble printing pages on your site. What am I doing wrong?
I am sorry that you are having difficulty printing the pages on my site.  Please check here for specific browser issues and suggestions to resolve your problem.   Please keep in mind, however, that all About pages are copyrighted.  If you plan on using them for other than personal reference, please read the About.com User Agreement.  If you would like to share the information you are trying to print with a friend, then please use the "Share this site with a friend" link at the bottom of each page of my site.  About.com will not retain the email address for any use other than to forward on the page to your friend. See the Privacy Policy for more information.

How do I cite this site in my paper or article?
It's important to cite your research materials, even those online. To cite my entire site, it's sufficient to give the address of the site in the text. For example, "According to Genealogy at About-The Human Internet (http://genealogy.about.com)..."

To cite an article or page on my site, use the following format...

Powell, Kimberly T. "Teaching Your Children to be Ancestor Detectors" Genealogy at About-The Human Internet. Retrieved April 17, 2000 from the World Wide Web: http://genealogy.about.com/library/weekly/aa041700a.htm.

How do I reprint an article or talk to Kimberly?
Please write to me, Kimberly Powell, at genealogy.guide@about.com to find out about reprinting my articles, to contact me for an interview, or to inquire about booking me as a guest speaker or presenter.
