When the 1940 US census came around, Neil Armstrong, age 9, already loved to fly. His father, Stephen K. Armstrong, was a state examiner for the state of Ohio, so the family moved on multiple occasions. The census gives just part of this story, indicating that the family was living in Jefferson, Ashtabula County, Ohio, in 1935, and in St. Marys, Auglaize County, Ohio in 1940. Also enumerated in the 1940 census with Neil Armstrong are his parents, Stephen K. and Viola L. Armstrong, and younger siblings June and Dean.1
