Orville Wright was living in his residence known as Hawthorne Hill in 1940, a home designed by both Orville & Wilbur Wright. Unfortunately, Wilbur died before the home was completed in 1914. Orville Wright initially lived there with his father, Milton, and his sister, Katherine, but was there on his own by 1940, living only with servants Carrie and Charles Gumbach.1

After Orville's death in 1948, the Hawthorne Hill home was purchased by the NCR Corporation. It was donated to the Wright Family Foundation in 2006 and is open for scheduled tours.
