Summing Up the Research

Presented here is information obtained through a preliminary online search for the Jewel family based on the facts presented in the referenced article. Although I found this information quickly, I also have a lot of practice. In general, you should expect to allot more than the author's five hours to locate this much information on your family tree.

James Edgar Jewel was born 26 March 1910 in NY and died 12 Oct. 1985. He married Evelyn Pauline Paulsen on 22 Dec. 1934. His parents were Martin Daus Jewel, son of Julius and Johanna Jewel, b. 11 Jan 1879 in Germany and d. 26 Nov 1925 (need to check the NYC death records to confirm this is him) and Lee Helene Cane, daughter of Solomon and Fanny Cane, b. abt. 1882 in NY and died after Mar, 1956. James had one brother, Jerome J. (Jerry) Jewel.

Evelyn Paulsen Jewel was born 24 March 1914 in Bayonne, Hudson, NH, and died 14 March 1982 in Pinellas, Florida. Her parents were John Paulsen, a railroad engineer, who was born about Sept. 1870 in Denmark; and Marie Elisabeth Ericcson Paulsen, born abt. Dec 1870 in Denmark. Siblings include Edward, Bernard, Esther, Ruth D., and Russell E. Paulsen.

There are more details on both families not included here due to space restrictions, but additional research in census, immigration, newspaper, and other records can take you back even further in the Jewel family tree. Much of this information also needs to be followed up in court and other offline records.
