Kimberly Powell is a professional genealogist, genealogy blogger and proud mother of three children. She currently serves as Co-Coordinator for the Advanced Evidence Analysis Practicum at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, where she was also an instructor in 2013. She is also the proud winner of the Silver Tray for Excellence in Genealogical Publishing, awarded by the Utah Genealogical Society in January 2013 for her work on About.com.
Experience:
Kimberly's interest in genealogy began about 30 years ago with a school project and has developed into a passion. She is currently the Vice President of the Association of Professional Genealogists, and a proud member of the National Genealogical Society, the International Society of Family History Writers and Editors, and several local genealogical societies. She has been writing about genealogy for About.com since 2000, and her work has also appeared in several genealogy magazines. She is the author of "Everything Family Tree, 2nd Edition" (2006), the Everything Guide to Online Genealogy (2008) and the Everything Guide to Online Genealogy, 2nd Edition (2011). She also serves as webmaster for the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society.
Education:
Kimberly maintains ongoing professional genealogy training through online classes, seminars, self-study, and genealogical conferences. Most recently she completed a Certificate in Genealogical Research through Boston University's Center for Professional Education (2011); Elizabeth Shown Mill's Advanced Methodology and Evidence Analysis (2010) and Thomas W. Jones' Writing and Publishing for Genealogists (2011) courses at Samford's Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research; and Thomas W. Jones' Advanced Methodology class (2011) and the Advanced Evidence Analysis Practicum (2012) at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy.
