Comments: Records
are available beginning with January 1914 births. Records of
births from 1908-1912 were kept by the County Clerk in the county
where the birth occurred and are also available at the Tennessee
State Archives. Records
of some births that occurred in the major cities (Nashville since
June 1881, Knoxville since July 1881 and Chattanooga since January 1882)
are
also available. A certified photocopy of the original record may be
obtained at a fee of $10.00 for the first copy and $2.00 for each
additional copy of the same record requested at the same time.
Be sure to ask for the photocopy (long form)! With your
request include as much as you can of the following: the
name on the birth record being requested, date of birth, place of birth
(city or county), father's
full name, (last, first, middle), mothers full name, including her maiden
name, your daytime telephone
number with area code and your mailing address. * If the records are not available at the State office, they should be available from the Register of Deeds in the county where the birth occurred * Memphis birth records from April 1874 - December 1887 and November 1898 - January 1, 1914 are available from the Memphis & Shelby County Health Department.Event: Death Dates: From 1908Cost of copy: $5.00 Comments: State
office has had death records for entire State since January 1914, for
Nashville since July 1874, for Knoxville since July 1887 and for Chattanooga
since March 6, 1872. Death records are available from the
State Vital Records Office for the past 50 years (beginning with January 1,
1951, deaths). The cause of death is not normally included on a certified
copy unless specifically requested and then is available only to certain
family members or legal representatives.

of birth prior to 1951 are
maintained by Tennessee
State Archives.
With your request
include as much as you can of the following: the name on the death record
being requested, date of death, place of death (city or county), your
relationship to the individual on the record, the reason for your request, your daytime telephone number with area code and your

State Archives. Marriages from 1950 to the present are available through the
Tennessee Division of Vital Records. With your request

Copies of entries for a surname can be provided upon request from the Tennessee State Archives for a fee of $3.
