What Windows genealogy software do you use on a regular basis? Which one best meets your needs, from data entry and user interface, to source citations and reports? These five windows genealogy software programs were voted finalists in the 2013 Readers' Choice Awards. Vote now for your favorite!

    Family Historian by Calico Pie is most lauded for its outstanding multimedia management and fantastic charts, but also its flexibility, ease of use, and "unbeatable support."
  • Family Tree Maker
    Praised for its ability to pull in records directly from Ancestry.com and sync with online Ancestry Member Trees, Family Tree Maker for Windows was also mentioned by users for its chart and book creation tools, and very intuitive layout.
  • Legacy Family Tree
    Legacy Family Tree offers a fully-functional free version, as well as a deluxe paid version with additional features. Users praise this software for the quality of its reports, wide variety of features, and great user support. Also mentioned quite often was the accompanying Legacy Family Tree Webinars Series.

    Readers absolutely love the source citation templates based on Evidence Explained, plus the option to create their own template styles. Intuitive, easy-to-use, and great reports were also mentioned frequently, along with the personal feel of the user support and the free how-to webinars. This program also comes in a free version (RootsMagic Essentials) with many core features, and offers a free iPhone/iPad app as well.

    This powerful genealogy software was most praised for its ability to handle large volumes of research data and multimedia, as well as its excellent customizability. Some readers also mentioned the great genealogy cruise that Wholly Genes puts on each year!
